FFXIV Bug Lets Au Ra Players Unlock Custom Horn Colors

A bug found on the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy XIV is letting Au Ra players change their horn colors, something the game normally does not allow.

Au Ra characters usually stick to black or white horns and scales. Players who ran into this bug are reportedly seeing horns in colors like green, blue, and red instead, according to reports circulating on social media.

The bug appears limited to the Switch 2 version of the game. Final Fantasy XIV launched on Switch 2 in an early access state roughly a month ago, and this particular glitch surfaced shortly after developers pushed a hotfix aimed at fixing loading time issues on that version.

What’s interesting is the timing. This bug showed up not long after Square Enix revealed plans for the game’s next expansion, Evercold. Some players are now wondering whether this accidental horn-color glitch is hinting at a feature the developers are already planning to bring in officially.

Square Enix has not commented on the bug or confirmed anything about horn customization coming to the base game. Whether this was purely an accident or something tied to development work already underway remains unclear.

Fans are expecting more details about Evercold at the upcoming Tokyo FanFest event, scheduled for Halloween weekend. Director Naoki Yoshida usually uses these keynote sessions to reveal new features, so players will be watching closely to see if horn customization gets mentioned.

Final Fantasy XIV recently rolled out Patch 7.55 as well, adding new endgame content including the Occult Crescent: North Horn area, a new public dungeon called Forked Tower: Magic, and the final part of the ongoing Phantom relic weapon storyline.

For now, the horn color bug remains just that, a bug. Square Enix has not said whether it will be patched out or left as is until more information becomes available.
