Fasting In Shaban Month

Shaban is one of the holy months that precede Ramadan. Fasting throughout the month of Shaban indicates our devotion to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and our desire to be near him in the Hereafter. According to Hadees recounted by Hazrat Aisha (RA), the Prophet (PBUH) used to fast in the month of Shaban.

‘The Messenger of Allah (saw) used to fast (so continuously) that we said he would not break it, and he did not fast at all till we said he would not fast,’ Aishah (RA) stated. And I did not witness the Prophet of Allah (saw) finishing a month’s fast other than Ramadan, and I did not see him fasting more in any other month than Sha’ban’. Hadith 2182, Vol. 3, Book 22

Shaban was Prophet Muhammad’s favourite month for fasting (PBUH). In one of the hadees, he even referred to Shaban as his month.

“It was narrated by Umm Salamah that the Prophet did not fast in any month of the year except Shaban, and he used to join with Ramadan.” Hadith 2355, Vol. 3, Book 22
