Concerns have been expressed by parents and students in Pakistan after Cambridge Assessment International Education CAIE announced a 16% rise in test registration costs per topic for its next assessment series. CAIE, a UK-based supplier of foreign certificates extensively used by Pakistan’s private education industry, has come under fire from 85,000 students and their families who are trying to keep up with growing prices.
According to local estimates, the fee rise would cost normal O’ Level 10th students sitting Pakistan Studies, Islamiyat, and Urdu examinations roughly Rs. 10,000 each session. Meanwhile, 11th class students pursuing five subjects, including English, Mathematics, and three natural sciences, would face a nearly Rs. 15,000 per session rise. A-Level students would also be affected, with a total cost rise of about Rs. 6,000 for three standard natural science subjects. A-Level Fees in Pakistan 2023 may be viewed by parents and students.

Parents expressed dissatisfaction with the cost increase, citing Pakistan’s public education system’s inability to deliver internationally recognized degrees. Some have questioned why they need to spend more money on private international education if the country’s education system is superior.
Education specialists in Pakistan have also attacked CAIE’s monetary policies, claiming that they are implemented without taking into account the country’s distinct socioeconomic realities. They say that this significantly increases the financial burden on students and their families.
CAIE responded to the criticism by stating that their charge in Pakistan is the lowest in the world and that the increase was required to maintain the quality of their programs. The group claimed to be cognizant of Pakistan’s local economic situation and stated that the charge increase was far smaller than the current rate of inflation.
