Samsung recently unveiled its latest flagship smartphone lineup, the Galaxy S24 series, during its Samsung Unpacked event. A key highlight of these new devices is the integration of Google’s powerful Gemini AI model, marking the dawn of the “AI phone” era.
Galaxy S24 series will feature two versions of Gemini – the full Gemini Pro model and a lightweight on-device version called Gemini Nano. Gemini Pro will enable AI-powered features like text summarization in Samsung’s Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard apps. It also powers advanced photo editing capabilities in the Gallery app using Google’s Imagen 2 text-to-image generator.
Gemini Nano is optimized to run efficiently on the device itself without relying on the cloud. It will be used for AI features in apps like Google Messages, where it can adjust messaging tone and generate Photomojis. Recognizing potential privacy concerns, Samsung has provided users the ability to process Gemini Nano data entirely on their device.
Beyond Gemini integration, Google and Samsung also announced a new “Circle to Search” feature that lets users encircle something in their camera viewfinder and immediately look it up. This allows for intuitive visual searches without leaving the camera interface.
With the Galaxy S24 lineup, Samsung aims to deliver the most AI-capable smartphones yet. Powered by strategic partnerships with industry leaders like Google, these phones represent an exciting step towards making AI accessible and useful in people’s everyday lives
