In a tragic incident that unfolded on Sunday in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, five individuals lost their lives in a small plane crash, as reported by the Horry County Coroner’s Office. The victims included the pilot and four passengers, one succumbed to their injuries at a hospital shortly after the crash.
The victims’ identities are yet to be disclosed, pending notification of their families. It has been revealed that several of the victims were related and their families reside in a foreign country.
The ill-fated aircraft was a PA-32R-300 model, a single-engine plane known for its high performance. The plane, which has a seating capacity of six, was registered under the number N5524F. FlightAware records indicate that the registration belongs to Joseph T. Farnese from New Jersey. However, it remains unconfirmed whether Farnese was piloting the aircraft or was among the passengers at the time of the crash.
According to data from FlightAware, the plane took off at 11:02 a.m. and crashed just a minute later at 11:03 a.m. The aircraft’s most recent flight prior to the accident had been on Friday when it flew from Essex County Airport in New Jersey to Grand Strand Airport in North Myrtle Beach.
The crash occurred along Pete Dye Drive, just off Gray Heron Road, leading to the closure of the road for a couple of days. The road has since been reopened as of Monday night.
The exact circumstances that led to this tragic crash remain unknown. Initial reports from the FAA indicated that there were only four people on board, but this was later corrected by the coroner’s office. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with further updates expected in due course.
