Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in Islamabad has declared that it will be closed for four consecutive days this week. The decision comes as a response to security concerns and the observance of the Ashura holidays.
According to the official notification issued by the university, the institution will remain shut on 26th and 27th July 2023, which fall on Wednesday and Thursday. This closure is due to the anticipated road blockages in the surrounding area for security reasons.
The university will extend its closure to 28th and 29th July 2023, Friday and Saturday, in respect of the Ashura observance. Ashura marks the 9th and 10th days of Muharram-ul-Haram 1445, a significant period in the Islamic calendar.
This decision was made under the approval of the Vice Chancellor, ensuring that the university is adhering to both security protocols and religious customs.
During this temporary shutdown, all students, faculty members, and staff are strongly advised to follow the necessary precautions and abide by the guidelines provided by the university administration. The university plans to resume its regular academic and administrative activities from 30th July 2023, Sunday.
This move by the university underscores its commitment to the safety of its community members and its respect for religious observances.
