Punjab Schools and Colleges to Stay Open on Friday, Saturday

Lahore, November 30, 2023 – The Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, educational institutions across Punjab will continue their operations this coming weekend. The decision comes as a relief to many after concerns regarding smog-related closures were put to rest due to the improved air quality in the region.

The Cabinet Standing Committee on Smog, which convened to discuss the air pollution levels in smog-affected districts including Lahore, concluded that the air quality index (AQI) had shown considerable improvement.

The committee decided against imposing any restrictions for the upcoming weekend. This means that schools and colleges will remain open on Friday and Saturday, and businesses will operate as usual without disruptions.

It was also confirmed that winter vacations for children are set to commence on December 18. This information provides clarity for parents and students planning their end-of-year schedules.

Public schools in Punjab had been closed the previous Friday and Saturday, which had raised concerns among the populace about potential ongoing disruptions due to environmental conditions. However, the latest decision has been welcomed by the community as it indicates a positive trend in managing the smog situation in the province.

Authorities in Multan have also echoed the decision, ensuring that schools will remain operational. This move is seen as an effort to maintain educational continuity after the recent closures, which had been a point of contention for both parents and educators advocating for uninterrupted learning.
