Punjab Increases Bus Fares Up to 267%

The Punjab government raised inter-city and intra-city transportation fees by up to 267%. The decision has sent shockwaves across the public, which is already burdened by growing living costs. The large rise will undoubtedly restrict the population of basic transportation.

The increased rates went into effect on April 25 in response to rising inflation. Citizens affected by inflation are afraid that this situation will make travel almost impossible.

According to reports, the rates of buses traveling between cities would increase by 265%, while those traveling inside the city will climb by 267%. Four-kilometer travel currently costs Rs. 14. This tariff will rise to Rs. 47 following an Rs. 33 increase.

Due to rising fuel costs, people are increasingly turning away from private transportation, such as cars and motorcycles, and toward public transportation. With such a substantial increase in petrol prices, people may be forced to cycle or walk to their different locations.
