In the budget, the caretaker Punjab administration promised an increase in government employee pay and pensions.
During a news conference, Punjab Minister of Information Amir Mir announced that a decision has been taken to increase government employee pay by 30% in the budget.
Additionally, pensions will receive a 5% increment, while people over the age of 80 would receive a 20% increase.
Mir stated that no additional taxes were placed in the budget. The provision for healthcare and education has been increased by 31%, while the province’s development budget would be Rs. 325 billion.
He added that the current Chief Minister has quickly decided to pay off an Rs. 600 billion debt.
The government hopes to pay off this loan, which would have reached Rs. 1100 billion rupees by the end of the year if not repaid, over the next four months.
The Minister further stated that an Rs. 1 billion journalist endowment fund has been established in the budget.
