Punjab Government Announces Salary and Pension Increases for Civil Servants
The interim administration of Punjab has declared an increase in the salaries and pensions of government employees. The announcement revealed a substantial 35 percent increase in the remuneration of government personnel within grades 1 to 16.
According to the official statement, the administration has also approved a 30 percent rise in the wages of employees classified under grades 17 to 22. This decision is set to benefit a large number of civil servants across various levels of the government hierarchy.
In addition to the salary hike, the regional government has sanctioned an increase of 17.5 percent in pension disbursements. This move is expected to provide financial relief to retired government employees who rely on their pensions for sustenance.
However, it’s important to note that these increases will be implemented based on the existing base salary of the civil servants, as specified in the notification issued by the government.
This decision comes after recent protests by government employees in Punjab demanding a hike in their salaries. The protests ended with assurances from the federal government to address their concerns. In order to pressurize the Punjab government to meet their demands, a coalition known as the All Government Employees Alliance had been formed.
The recent announcement by the Punjab government is seen as a response to these protests and a step towards meeting the demands of government employees. It remains to be seen how this decision will impact the overall morale and productivity of the civil servants in the region.
