Considering the heatwave in several cities in the province, the Punjab Education Department has announced the official schedule for summer vacations in 2024 for schools and colleges. As notified by the department, the summer holidays will begin on June 1, 2024, and last until August 14.
After the holidays, educational activities will reopen on August 15 a Thursday. Due to the expected rise in the heatwave, the department has changed the school timings of the whole province. Schools will remain open from 7:00 am to 11:30 am, and on Fridays, the school will remain till 10:30 am.
The Meteorological Office warning said high pressure in the upper atmosphere will lead to heatwave conditions in most parts of the country, including the Punjab and Sindh provinces, with effect from May 21.
The warning added that heatwave conditions would develop into a severe heatwave from May 23 to 27. Daytime cues will likely be 04 to 06°C above normal in Sindh and Punjab May 21-23 while increasing 0 6 to 08°C23-27. The capital circle, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Balochistan are expected to reach 4 to 6* above normal on a 21-27 basis.
