Peshawar High Court Order to Retake of MDCAT 2023 within Six Weeks

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has ordered a retake of the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) for the year 2023. This decision comes in response to allegations of cheating during the initial examination process in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had revealed instances of cheating during the MDCAT exams in KP, leading to the KP government’s decision to re-administer the test. The PHC, in its verdict, has upheld this decision, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the admissions process.

The court has directed that the MDCAT retests be conducted within a six-week period, as per the directives provided by the KP cabinet. The focus is on ensuring transparency throughout the process to uphold the highest standards in the field of medical education.

Previously, the PHC had temporarily withheld the release of the MDCAT 2023 Results due to allegations of cheating, specifically the alleged use of Bluetooth devices during the test.

The court had adjourned the hearing until September 21, seeking responses from key authorities, including the Chief Secretary, the Executive Director of the Educational Testing Agency (ETA), and the Registrar of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

It’s worth noting that the Supreme Court (SC) had previously declared the MDCAT mandatory for admissions to medical colleges across the country in December 2021.

In a five-page judgment, Justice Shah emphasized the importance of regulating admissions to medical and dental programs in public colleges based strictly on merit, as per the policies of provincial governments.

The PHC’s decision to uphold the retesting of MDCAT 2023 demonstrates a commitment to maintaining the integrity of the medical college admissions process.

With a focus on transparency and merit-based admissions, this verdict aligns with the broader goal of ensuring that deserving students have fair and equal opportunities to pursue their medical education.

The MDCAT Retest Scheduled for 2023, marks a pivotal moment in the pursuit of excellence in medical education.
