PBC has announced the Law Graduate Assessment Test (GAT) for fresh law graduates seeking to start their careers as advocates. The test scheduled for January 7th, 2024 aims to evaluate and register suitable candidates for legal practice.
Eligibility and Registration
Graduates with an LLB or equivalent degree recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and PBC can register for the test by December 25th, 2023. The revised curriculum and other application requirements are available on the HEC website.
The computer-based GAT comprises multiple-choice questions testing candidates’ understanding of the law curriculum. It intends to examine if graduates are adequately prepared for the legal profession.
Qualifying in the PBC GAT enables fresh law graduates to begin their pupilage and training under senior lawyers. It is the first step for them to gain practical experience and ultimately be registered as certified lawyers with provincial bar councils for legal practice.
The test provides an opportunity for graduates passionate about law to formally enter the profession. It facilitates the steady supply of competent lawyers to meet the country’s legal needs.
By standardizing the evaluation process, the GAT also promotes merit-based induction of young legal talent. This aims to uplift legal education and practice standards over time.
PBC GAT paves the way for law graduates embark on their professional legal careers. It transforms their academic learning into practical training to serve justice. The transparent conduct of the test promotes public trust in the legal system.
