OpenAI’s ChatGPT Set to Launch Android App Amidst Rising Popularity

OpenAI’s artificial intelligence tool, ChatGPT, has been making waves since its inception in November. The tool’s user base has grown exponentially, matching the growth trajectory of Threads. Now, OpenAI is set to expand its reach further by launching an Android application.

The announcement of the ChatGPT Android app comes a few months after the successful launch of its iOS version, which was made available to iPhone and iPad users. The company had hinted at the development of an Android version during the iOS app’s launch in May, and it seems they have now fulfilled that promise.

OpenAI took to Twitter to announce the upcoming release of the ChatGPT Android app. While the exact date of the launch was not specified, the company confirmed that the app would be available next week. They also provided a link to a pre-order page on the Google Play Store, allowing interested users to register for the app in advance.

While Google’s Bard chatbot operates through a web-based interface without dedicated mobile apps, users eager for a ChatGPT app could previously turn to Microsoft’s Bing app. Available on both Android and iOS platforms since February, the Bing app utilizes its Prometheus Model and GPT-4.

However, this news comes amidst reports of declining web traffic and app installations in June, as per data from Sensor Tower and Similarweb. There have also been recent complaints about GPT-4’s performance deteriorating over time. In response to these concerns, OpenAI assured users earlier this week that it is continually updating the APIs to improve the tool’s performance.

With the launch of the ChatGPT Android app, OpenAI continues to demonstrate its commitment to expanding its user base and improving its AI tools. As we await the official release, it will be interesting to see how this new development influences the AI landscape.
