Federal Ministry Announces Matric & Inter New Syllabus

Pakistan’s Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Education recently announced its approval of a new national curriculum, the first change in seventeen years since the previous curriculum was approved in 2006. The curriculum for Class 9th to Class 12th was developed collaboratively, incorporating diverse stakeholders and ensuring inclusion throughout the process. The new curriculum will be implemented gradually, with classes 9 and 11 adopting it in 2024, followed by classes 10 and 12 in 2025. Inclusive Curriculum Development

Throughout the curriculum preparation process, the ministry engaged key stakeholders from around the country, including policymakers, academics, practitioners, parents, and students. To get feedback, extensive consultations and discussions about policies were held, as well as multiple curriculum workshops. Stakeholders can also provide feedback through an online portal. Regional curriculum workshops were held in each province, culminating in a final meeting at the NCC Secretariat in Islamabad, when experts from all provinces, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan evaluated and signed off on nine topics’ curriculum.

Implementation and Stakeholder Meetings

Multiple stakeholder meetings were held to guarantee the proper implementation of the new curriculum, resulting in the formal notification of the curriculum for Islamabad Capital Territory and institutions under Federal Ministries. An implementation plan has been produced in line with the notification to guide the process. The curriculum shall be reviewed and notified by provinces in line with their Acts and legislation.

The acceptance of the revised matric and inter-syllabus by the Ministry of Federal Education represents a significant milestone in Pakistan’s education system following a long-awaited overhaul. The process of curriculum building is open and collaborative, resulting in a full and well-rounded educational framework. With a strategy in place, the new curriculum will be gradually implemented, paving the way for improved learning experiences and educational outcomes for children across the country.
