FDE Announces New Winter Timings for Schools & Collages

The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has announced changes in the daily routine for educational institutions. Starting December 1, schools and colleges in both urban and rural areas of Islamabad will follow new operational hours, a move that is set to last until January 31, 2024.

The revised schedule comes as a response to the recent decline in temperature, with single-shift institutes now opening their doors from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm from Monday to Thursday. Fridays will see an early closure at 12:30 pm, allowing students and staff to wrap up the week ahead of the usual time.

Double-shift institutes are also adapting to the winter season. The morning session is slated to run from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on weekdays, except for Friday when it ends at 12:30 pm. The evening shift will commence from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm on regular weekdays, with a later start at 2:30 pm on Fridays.

Postgraduate colleges have not been left out of this seasonal adjustment. They will operate within the same timeframe as single-shift institutes, either from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm or extending until 4:00 pm.

This change in school timings is not just a local initiative but is expected to set a precedent for other regions to follow suit, especially as colder weather is anticipated to sweep across the country.
