Elon Musk’s recent controversial policy changes on X (formerly known as Twitter) have managed to draw in the Bluesky, amassing 25 million active users. Now, the platform aims to be a feeds-based place with a trending video feed feature for TikTok users.
A new feature, Bluesky announced with a post saying, “We just had to hop on the video action, too,” with a video preview. The feature is similar to TikTok and Instagram Reels, where users can swipe up and down through vertical videos, like, comment and reshare them.
The new feature, ‘ Trending Videos, ‘ will be available in the Discover section by tapping the search icon. Users can pin videos to their feeds with a Pin feature. Hands-on experience reveals that Bluesky’s feature looks strikingly similar to other popular short-form video platforms.
The feature is currently available to users only on Android and iOS. To access it, users must update the app to the latest version.
Bluesky is making this move while taking advantage of the disruption of TikTok’s ban in the U.S. to draw in users looking for a new spot to create short-form video content.
Bluesky’s small fraction of the user base compared to TikTok is balanced by the platform’s goal of growing what has become a crowded commodity offering in the industry.
The company also hinted at other TikTok apps using Bluesky’s AT protocol in development, making the ecosystem more decentralized.
