The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is a federal unconditional cash transfer poverty reduction program in Pakistan, launched in July 2008. It has grown to become the country’s largest social safety net, providing income support to more than 5 million poor and vulnerable families. The program aims to fight poverty by employing multiple social protection instruments designed to bring sustainable positive change in the lives of persistently excluded and deprived families.
To ensure that beneficiaries have access to information and assistance, BISP has established a toll-free helpline at 0800-26477. This helpline allows beneficiaries to report any complaints, seek guidance on the program, and inform BISP about any issues they may face while receiving their cash assistance.
The BISP helpline plays a crucial role in maintaining transparency and accountability within the program. It enables beneficiaries to voice their concerns and receive prompt assistance, ensuring that the program remains effective in achieving its mission of alleviating poverty and uplifting the lives of the poorest segments of society.
In addition to the toll-free helpline, BISP also maintains regional offices throughout Pakistan, including one in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The regional office in AJK can be contacted via email at [email protected] or by phone at 05822-924111. The office is located near Bilal Masjid, Lower Chatter Muzaffarabad AJ&K.
The BISP program distributes cash assistance through various initiatives, such as the Benazir Kafaalat, which provides a quarterly installment of Rs. 7,000 to eligible families. In 2024, approximately 7.7 million families are expected to receive over Rs 55 billion in the first tranche. Furthermore, the program offers a monthly payment of Rs. 1,000 per family, which constitutes one-fifth of the average income of the population below the cut-off.
