Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro Launch Date Announced

Google recently announced the launch date for its much-anticipated Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones. The announcement came just a day after Apple’s iPhone event, leading to speculation that Google may be strategically positioning itself against its rival.

The official unveiling of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro is slated for October 4th, a month after the iPhone launch. Unlike Apple’s traditional campus-based event in Cupertino, California, Google has chosen New York City as the venue for its launch event. Both events are set to kick off at 10 AM local time.

Adding to the intrigue, Google ‘accidentally’ revealed the Pixel 8 Pro on its online store, further fueling anticipation. The Pixel 8 Pro is rumored to feature a rear temperature sensor and a large 6.7-inch 2K LTPO OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is expected to be powered by the Tensor G3 chipset, backed by 12 GB of RAM and storage options of 128 GB or 256 GB.

The device is also expected to include an in-display fingerprint sensor using ultrasonic technology for enhanced security. The camera system is said to comprise a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 64MP ultrawide lens, and a 48MP telephoto lens. A front-facing 11MP camera will cater to selfie enthusiasts.

The Pixel 8 Pro is anticipated to come with a 4,950 mAh battery, supporting 27W wired charging, and will run on Android 14 right from the start.

As for the Pixel 8, it shares the same chipset, Android version, selfie camera, storage options, and fingerprint sensor as the Pro model. However, it features a slightly smaller 6.17-inch display with a 1080 x 2400 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The rear camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor and a 12MP ultrawide lens. The device is supported by a 4,485 mAh battery, compatible with 24W wired charging and 12W wireless charging.

With these announcements, Google has certainly set the stage for an exciting showdown in the smartphone market this fall.
