PTA Clarifies ONIC is Not a New Mobile Operator

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has recently clarified that no new mobile operator has been granted a license to offer mobile services in the country. This statement was issued in response to widespread misconceptions among the public and social media users about the launch of a new operator named ONIC.

PTA explained that ONIC is not a new mobile operator but a digital product set to be launched by Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML). PTML, which already owns the Ufone brand, intends to introduce ONIC to cater to the digital segment of the market. This move is aimed at those who prefer convenient digital engagement over traditional service delivery, particularly high-end users.

The PTA further stated that it has been in active communication with PTML regarding their plans to launch ONIC. As part of its commitment to regulatory compliance and consumer protection, the authority has advised PTML to fulfill all necessary regulatory requirements before the launch of this new digital product.

This clarification from PTA comes amidst a flurry of rumors and speculation on social media about the emergence of a new mobile operator under the name ONIC. The PTA’s statement aims to set the record straight and ensure that consumers are accurately informed about the nature of ONIC and its relationship with PTML and the Ufone brand.
