Abu Dhabi Reduces Hotel and Restaurant Fees to Propel Tourism Growth

Abu Dhabi has announced significant reductions in hotel and restaurant fees. The city’s Department of Culture and Tourism made the announcement on Friday, with the changes set to take effect from September 1st.

The key amendments include a reduction in the tourism fee for visitors from 6% to 4%, the elimination of the AED 15 per room, per night fee, and the removal of the 6% tourism and 4% municipality fees for hotel restaurants. However, a 4% municipality fee based on the overall invoice to customers will continue to be levied.

This initiative sanctioned by the Abu Dhabi Executive Council is part of a broader strategy to enhance Abu Dhabi’s standing as a premier global tourist destination. The city’s Media Office echoed this sentiment, reiterating the department’s commitment to continually enhancing tourism, culture, and hospitality in Abu Dhabi.

According to recent official figures, Abu Dhabi welcomed 18 million visitors last year, marking a significant increase in tourism. The most frequented cultural sites were the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Cultural Foundation, and Qasr Al Hosn. Furthermore, the number of overnight visitors to the capital surged by 24% from the previous year to 4.1 million. The average length of stay was three nights, and hotel occupancy rates averaged 70%, surpassing the Middle East average.

These changes in fees are expected to further stimulate the growth of the hospitality and tourism sector in Abu Dhabi, making it an even more attractive destination for travelers worldwide.
