Punjab Cabinet Approves Salary and Pension Increases

The Punjab caretaker cabinet approved a series of crucial decisions, including a substantial salary increase for government officials. The cabinet sanctioned a 35% salary hike for government employees in grades 1-16 and a 30% raise for those in grades 17-22. This increase will be calculated based on the current basic salary of the government servants.

The cabinet, presided over by caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, also approved a 17.5% increase in pensions for retirees. This decision is expected to significantly improve the financial stability of retired government employees.

In addition to these salary and pension increases, the cabinet addressed the issue of rising sugar prices. CM Naqvi ordered the implementation of enduring measures to prevent sugar smuggling and stabilize commodity prices, aiming to alleviate the financial burden on consumers.

The cabinet also gave its principal approval for the acquisition of two new helicopters for Rescue 1122. One helicopter will function as an air ambulance, while the other will be used for rescue operations during floods and other emergencies.

To further prepare for potential flood situations, the cabinet allocated Rs4.40 billion to the irrigation department to cover essential expenditures. A special ministerial committee was formed to expedite decision-making in this regard.

The cabinet also took preventive measures against potential floods by deciding to evacuate localities along the River Ravi’s pathway, ensuring the timely relocation of residents in those areas.

Other key decisions included the establishment of the Board of Management of the Institute of Public Health under the Punjab Medical and Health Institution Act 2023 and the approval of construction projects under the Annual Development Programme. Lastly, the cabinet approved an amendment to the transfer policy of Excise and Taxation to simplify the process for the general public.
