PTA Takes Quick Action, Blocks 43 Loan Apps After Rawalpindi Suicide Case

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked 43 loan applications. This action was taken on Monday in response to a recent suicide case in Rawalpindi, marking a significant step in the fight against scammers and fake applications in the country.

The decision was made following directives from the Ministry of Information Technology, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Syed Amin ul Haque, recognizing the gravity of the issue, instructed the PTA chairman to address the matter promptly. As a result, stringent measures have been initiated against illegal loan applications.

To ensure a comprehensive approach, the PTA joined forces with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). Minister Haque has also urged the public to play their part by reporting any suspicious applications to the relevant authorities. These include the PTA, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Cybercrime Wing, and local police. Reporting such instances is vital to reducing scams and protecting others from becoming victims of financial exploitation.

In addition, Minister Haque reached out to the Director General of the FIA to get an update on the progress made so far. He stressed that the FIA’s cybercrime wing should proactively take action against unscrupulous elements without solely depending on complaints.

The crackdown on online loan apps was triggered by the Cyber Crime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) after the tragic suicide of Muhammad Masood, a 42-year-old man from Rawalpindi. Masood had taken his own life after being blackmailed by online loan apps, underscoring the urgent need for such decisive actions.
