Guinness World Records announced on Sunday that a dog from Louisiana has the world’s longest tongue of any living dog, longer than a soda can, at 12.7cm.
A dog named Zoey – a Labrador/German Shepherd mix – was awarded the title of longest tongue after a vet measured from the tip of her snout to the tip of her tongue.
The record was previously held by Busby, whose tongue is estimated at 9.49 cm.
Sadie and Drew Williams – Zoe’s owners – brought her home when she was six weeks old.
Owners said that as a puppy, his tongue would often stick out of his mouth. The owners thought she would “grow into it but as time went on people started commenting on how long her tongue was.”
“We got Zoey when she was just six weeks old and we have the first picture of her with her tongue sticking out,” Mrs Williams said. Guinness World Records.
“It would be flailing all over the place. So sometime last year we took him to the vet and had his tongue measured,” Williams noted.
The owners emphasize that Zoey loves outdoor trips, chasing squirrels, car rides and swimming in the canal. However, he does not like baths.
He also said that his Zoe is popular among the neighbors.
“Whenever we’re taking him out for walks, people will come up to him and want to pet him. We’ll warn them ahead of time, ‘Hey, he’s friendly but he might be on you.’ Be rude,’ and every now and then she would, and there would be a big loose mark on their black trousers.” Drew Williams said.
