A new survey by Prostate Cancer UK has revealed that thousands of men are suffering from cancer simply because they don’t know because the disease has no symptoms.
Most men think that they will notice the symptoms of cancer in its early stages but they are wrong.
Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in men and affects thousands of people in the US and UK.
Chiara de Bias, from Prostate Cancer UK, said: “The really worrying thing is that this misinformation can prevent a man from getting an early diagnosis which could save his life.”
“Men’s health can be a minefield. Everyone’s knowledge is different and each of us probably believes something that isn’t quite right.”
“Prostate cancer usually has no symptoms until it has already spread and is incurable,” DeBiase said.
The UK charity polled almost 2,000 men across the UK and found that almost half were unaware of where the prostate was and three quarters of men did not know what it did.
Some 53% said they believed they would “be invited for testing by their doctor when they reach an age when they are at high risk.”
But there is no screening program at the national level to detect the disease in its early stages.
De Bias said: “Few people know the key factors that put them at risk. That’s why we’re asking every man to take their 30-second online risk checker, to understand their risk. get help, and what they can do about it. . . .
Prostate cancer mostly affects men over the age of 50 and the risk increases with age. One in eight men will be diagnosed with it at some point in their lives.
