An angler’s fishing trip in Hawaii turns into a horrific incident when a giant tiger shark attacks him and bites his kayak.
According to The New York PostThe wild encounter happened less than a mile off the coast of Oahu on Friday afternoon.
Scott Haraguchi, an angler, was fishing when he heard “a buzzing sound” that he described as a boat without a motor.
The video was captured by Haraguchi’s GoPro camera as the tiger shark crashed into his kayak and chewed on its side.
“A tiger shark killed me!” Haraguchi screamed as the shark lost the kayak’s balance.
The angler said he avoided the shark and resumed fishing, only to later realize how close he had come to being attacked by the predator.
At first he thought it was a turtle when he saw a “broad brown thing” in the water. He said the shark mistook his kayak for a seal.
“[It] happened so fast. [I] I didn’t realize that I stuck my left foot out of the water to protect myself from the impact and actually pushed the shark’s head with it,” he recalled.
“If you asked me to do it again, even without the shark, I don’t think I’d have the resilience (sic).”
“I’m thinking the shark maimed and injured the seal… and was waiting for it to die, came back and thought I was the seal, and attacked me instead,” They said.
The video shared by the angler has received over 88,000 views. The man survived the horrific encounter and walked away unharmed.
“I realize that life is short, time on earth is short,” he said. “Make the most of it, be nice to people.”
