A rare video has gone viral on social media in which a hungry bear can be seen entering the outdoor garage of a bakery in Avon, Connecticut, USA, and taking at least 60 cupcakes before leaving peacefully.
The collision left staff, who were loading cupcakes into the bakery’s delivery van on Wednesday, terrified.
Connecticut is home to between 1,000 and 1,200 black bears that were seen in 158 of the state’s 169 towns and cities last year, according to an estimate by the state Environmental Agency.
Mary Stephens, the bakery’s owner, wrote in an Instagram post that she heard employee Maureen Williams screaming “bloody murder” and yelling that there was a bear in the garage.
Williams told the TV station WTNH that he shouted to frighten the bear but it retreated and came back three times.
Williams said: “She backed out of the garage as the bear charged her.”
Surveillance video shows bakery workers walking around the side of the business to try to scare off the bear, but then running away after it spooked away.
