KARACHI: In a major development, Khurram Nisar, the accused who allegedly shot dead policeman Abdul Rehman in Karachi, has been arrested in Sweden, a senior police official said on Monday.
According to the police, Nisar had fled to Sweden after shooting a policeman in the Defense Housing Authority (DHA) Phase V area in November last year.
The accused, son of a former deputy commissioner and a dual citizen, used his Swedish passport to flee Pakistan, police sources said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South Asad Raza said the Swedish authorities arrested the accused about six months later.
“A Swedish police delegation has also reached Karachi,” the SSP said, adding that the alleged shooter would be shifted to Karachi in 10 to 15 days after completion of all formalities.
He further said that the Karachi Police had also contacted the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) through the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to arrest the accused.
According to the police, Nisar came to Karachi from Sweden on November 5 last year, he lives there with his wife and two children.

The incident happened when the police constable chased the suspected shooter with his partner and got into an altercation with him after his vehicle was pulled over for suspicious activity.
A few video footages have surfaced on social media in which Rehman and Nisar had a fight.
Footage of the shooting was captured by a CCTV camera in which Rehman and Nisar can be seen exiting the vehicle with tinted windows from the passenger seat and the driver’s seat respectively.
In the same video, the policeman can be seen holding a pistol and directing Nisar to get into the car to go to the police station.

A case of murder of a policeman was registered in the complaint of the sub-inspector in Derakhshan police station.
The suspected shooter faces charges of terrorism, murder and a shootout with police, officials said.
Shaheed Policeman Rehman was shot in the right temple. According to the First Information Report (FIR), preliminary medical examination revealed that the bullet had lodged in the head.
The FIR also contains a detailed statement of the deceased policeman’s colleague, a constable, who was present at the spot.
According to police, the two policemen, members of the Elite Shaheen Force, were on a routine patrol on a motorcycle when they saw a woman coming from a sedan near a traffic light in Khayaban-e-Shamsher, Defense Housing Authority (DHA). Heard the screams of Step V
“The martyred policeman, while on duty, ran after a black car and stopped it near Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s tomb as the driver boarded the car. He then opened the front passenger side door and got into the car. However, as soon as he got into the car, a girl sitting in the back seat got out of the car.
Later, according to the FIR, the vehicle sped ahead and stopped after covering some distance.
“During the drive, the cop and the shooter got into a heated argument. They stopped and both the cop and the driver got out of the car with guns drawn. At that point the driver took aim and shot the cop. The bullet hit him. hit him in the side of the head, killing him on the spot,” the police said.
The FIR also states that the policeman fired at the shooter, but missed.
