LAHORE: A Pakistani team has rescued a 16-year-old boy from the rubble of a building 82 hours after a powerful earthquake hit Turkey’s Adiman province, ARY News reported on Thursday.
In a statement, a Rescue 1122 spokesperson said a 16-year-old boy was rescued by Pakistan Urban Search and Rescue 1122 team 82 hours after the devastating earthquake in Turkey.
A UN-accredited Pakistani rescue team is carrying out technical search and rescue operations in six different collapsed buildings. The spokesman further said that the search and rescue operation is being led by Dr. Rizwan Naseer.
The spokesman added that the team’s first priority is to search and rescue people buried under the debris of collapsed buildings.
A 51-member urban search and rescue team is part of the international response.
It is worth mentioning here that the number of dead Monday’s magnitude 7.8 earthquake is expected to accelerate as relief efforts pass the 72-hour mark. What disaster experts consider to be the maximum possible period for saving lives.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday acknowledged “shortcomings” after criticizing his government’s response to the earthquake, one of the deadliest this century.
Survivors are left to scramble for food and shelter – and in some cases watch helplessly as their relatives cry out for rescue, and are eventually silenced under the rubble.
Still, rescue workers continued to pull survivors from the rubble as the death toll continued to rise.
