- Sindh Governor’s important message to MQM
- The party postponed the protest due to the ongoing naval exercises.
- MQMP says that they will announce the next date of the sit-in soon.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on Saturday announced the postponement of the February 12 sit-in against the Sindh government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The protest was to be held at Fawara Chowk near the Governor House as the party still has reservations over constituencies and the recently held local body elections.
The development came as Sindh Governor Kamran Tesori – an MQM-P leader – visited the party’s headquarters in Bahadurabad and met senior members in attendance.
After the meeting, the leaders spoke to reporters, where MQM-P convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said the Sindh governor had visited the party leadership with an “important message” from the federation.
Tesori said during the press conference that the peacekeeping exercises of Pakistan Navy are in full swing in the port city in which delegates from more than 40 countries are participating.
In response to the message, Siddiqui mentioned that despite “finalizing all preparations” for the sit-in, the party has decided to postpone the event on the governor’s request.
MQMP demanded that constituencies be determined, I have also spoken. [Foreign Minister and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman] Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said in this regard.
Siddiqui added that the party had taken this step under “great compulsion”. He said that if anyone has the right to protest in Karachi, it is MQMP, but this party prefers national interest rather than its political needs.
He said that the coordination committee of MQM will consult about the sit-in tonight and the date will be announced after the peace exercises are completed.
The convener of MQMP said that Karachi is the economic, industrial and ideological capital of Pakistan till date and its peace is connected with the peace of the entire nation. He said that the development of Karachi is connected with the development of the country.
Siddiqui said that in the past many political parties ignored the country’s interest and continued their political agenda, however MQMP
“Given up their rights to put Pakistan first”.
