Bad Bunny surprised his fans by giving his first speech in English at the Billboard Power 100 event on Thursday.
The 28-year-old Puerto Rican superstar, who made personal history after giving his first speech in English at a public event, took to the stage to present a special award to his longtime manager, Noah Asad.
“I know my man doesn’t like that kind of thing, this attention, he doesn’t like speeches,” Bad Bunny said to laughter from the crowd. “Me neither, so I’ll try to be quick.”
“Tonight is a special night, not because my friend Noah is winning this award. It’s more because I’m giving my first English speech,” he joked. “Tonight is a special night.” It’s the night because I’m presenting a special award to a very special person.”
After his English language introduction, Bud Bunny transitioned smoothly into speaking both Spanish and English as he celebrated Asad’s honor.
“This award means a lot to me, just as I know my own awards mean a lot to them,” he shared. “This award is proof that I’m not working alone. It’s proof that dreams come true, but never by yourself. It’s always about teamwork, and I know that. No one works like that.
“I want to thank him for believing in me…for believing in my dreams and my ambitions,” he added, “for making me work harder, dream bigger, and just Thanks for inspiring me to be a better person.”
Bad Bunny’s speech comes just days before the 2023 GRAMMY Awards, where he received a nomination for album of the year for Un Verano Sin Ti.
The singer has made history as it is the first Spanish album to receive the honor in the GRAMMY’s 65-year history.
