Johnny Depp ruled for his upcoming role in the highly anticipated film, Jane Du BarryNew promo photos have surfaced following a defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard.
The film, from French writer/director Maïwenn, stars Depp, 59, as King Louis XV.
In two new promotional photos from the upcoming period drama Jane Du Barry Released on Tuesday, December 3, 2023, Depp looks every bit royal in white hair and King Louis’ famous tartan hats and elaborate royal robes.
Maïwenn, 46, stars alongside Depp as costar Jean du Barry in the film, which she directed as well as wrote.
Louis XV ruled France from 1715 until his death in 1774. He was married to Marie Leczynska, Queen of France, but had several long-term affairs.
According to deadline, the film was shot over 11 weeks, both in studios and at famous locations in France such as the Palace of Versailles. The film follows the story of Jeanne du Berry, the last royal mistress of the King of France, who was born into poverty but used her intelligence to climb the social ladder and became a favorite companion of Louis XV.
The film will also star Benjamin Laverne, Pierre Richard, Melville Popaud, Noemi Lovsky, Pascal Gregory, and India Hare as additional cast members.

Last month, the two reached a compromise and decided to toss out their appeals. Heard will pay $1 million and said in a lengthy statement, “I have not made any admissions. This is not a concession process. There are no restrictions or interference with my voice going forward.”
