gave United Europe (EU) has signed three new development program agreements with funding of €87 million to support green and inclusive economic growth in Pakistan.
According to a statement from the European Union delegation in Pakistan, Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Dr. Reena Kivanka, Ambassador of the European Union, signed the agreements.
Focusing on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan, the new programs will improve agricultural value chains, provide access to clean energy and increase the availability of a skilled labor force.
He added that these programs are part of the EU’s support to Pakistan in post-flood recovery and reconstruction.
All three programs have been developed in close cooperation with federal and provincial governments and are part of a wider coordination effort by the EU and its member states through the Team Europe Initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, Niaz said, “The EU is Pakistan’s most valuable development partner as it has a substantial grant portfolio in Pakistan with a particular focus on socio-economic development of vulnerable communities. “
He maintained that clean and green energy is a measure for any sustainable development, adding that the support of the European Union in this particular area is essential to provide the required impetus to all such efforts by Pakistan.
Niaz further expressed hope that these three financial agreements will further help strengthen socioeconomic indicators, as rural economic transformation, provision of affordable energy and much-needed technical training for the youth will greatly benefit poor communities. Can be beneficial.
On his part, the EU Ambassador said that Pakistan has great potential thanks to its people and natural resources.
