Rawalpindi: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan Army said on Saturday that one soldier was martyred and 4 terrorists were killed in an encounter in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The media wing of the army said that the incident took place when the security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Bannu’s Janikhel general area.
The ISPR said that while the operation was going on, there was a fierce exchange of fire between its own troops and the terrorists, but the troops tracked down the terrorists’ hideout effectively.
According to ISPR, not only four terrorists were killed in this operation, but arms and ammunition were also recovered from the militants.
“The slain terrorists were actively involved in terrorist activities against the security forces and killing of innocent civilians,” the army’s media wing said.
However, during the exchange of fire, Sepoy Muhammad Waseem (aged 25 years and resident of Khairpur) fought bravely and martyred himself.
The ISPR added that after the incident, the security forces are carrying out a sweep of the area to eliminate other terrorists found in the area.
The IBO comes days after militants belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) overpowered security personnel of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Bannu.
The center was cleared about three days after the takeover but four soldiers were martyred in the process while 25 terrorists were also killed in the center.
Over the past few weeks, Pakistan has seen a fresh wave of terrorism with recent incidents in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The National Security Committee (NSC) had also, a day earlier, decided to heat up militancy with relentless counter and pre-emptive measures to neutralize threats in the country in any form.
“Terrorists are enemies of Pakistan and the entire nation is united on a single narrative of standing against terrorism,” the NSC participants said, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
