King Charles III is told that he will have to brave the egg-laying events.
Former Met Chief Superintendent Dai Davies told Mirror.co.uk that the monarch could face more deadly incidents during royal walks in the coming years.
An egg-laying incident occurred later that year, where a man hurled: “Charles, we’re going to have to pay for your parade when we’re struggling to heat our homes. Taxpayers for you.” Pays £100 million, and for what?
Speaking about the incident, Mr Davies said: “We must defend the right to peaceful protest.”
He added, “But all officers and their superiors must focus sharply in the face of this rise in anxiety.”
“There is no magic solution to this pattern of attacks or protests, but intelligence and an exit strategy are the most important factors.
“The egg incident shows the weakness of the royal family but it has happened before and it will happen again.
“The key is to make sure these events don’t spiral.
“As the IRA famously said after the Grand Hotel bombing, ‘We only have to be lucky once, you have to be lucky all the time.’
