The eldest member of K-pop supergroup BTS began his mandatory military service in South Korea on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old singer will spend 18 months at a frontline boot camp at the Yuncheon military base in North Gyeonggi Province, near the border with North Korea.
Although HYBE has requested ARMYs to refrain from visiting the training center on their enlistment day, hundreds of media personnel and fans of the star gathered at an intersection in front of the boot camp gate to catch a glimpse of the star.
“It’s time for the curtain call,” Jin wrote on Twitter earlier Tuesday.
On December 12, a day before military recruitment, Jin shared a photo of himself with his new haircut for military training.
In October, the K-pop band surprised ARMYs by announcing that they would be taking a break from performing, and doing their military duties.
BTS has been a globally popular South Korean band since debuting in 2013, and has generated billions of dollars for the South Korean economy by building a global legion of fans known as ARMYs.
