The federal government on Monday rejected a summary that called for an end to autonomy. National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and its Chairman, Geo News Reported
In its summary, NAB requested the government to declare the anti-graft watchdog as a civil service professional group, but the law ministry rejected the summary saying that NAB and its chairman are more independent than the civil service group.
The law ministry has written in its letter that with the approval of the summary, the anti-graft watchdog will no longer be an independent body.
Options were reduced.
National Accountability (Second Amendment) was passed by the National Assembly in August. Bill2022, which sought to exclude private transactions from the purview of NAB.
Under the amendment bill, NAB’s jurisdiction was set to deal only with mega scandals. Further, it was suggested that supplementary references can be filed only with the permission of the court to expedite the court proceedings within one year.
According to the bill, investigating officers shall not harass any person during investigation or inquiry and shall limit their questions to the investigation or inquiry or collection of evidence.
