ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday condemned the “unprovoked and indiscriminate firing” by Afghan border forces on civilians and demanded the “sternest possible action” against those responsible for the Chaman incident.

In a press release, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that such unfortunate incidents are not in accordance with the brotherly relations between the two countries.
He said that the Afghan authorities have been informed to avoid repetition of such incidents and to take strictest action against those responsible.
The spokesman said that it is the responsibility of both sides to protect citizens on the border.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said that the relevant authorities of the two countries are in touch to ensure that the situation does not deteriorate further and that such incidents can be avoided.

In a statement issued by the Public Relations Department of the Pakistan Army (ISPR), it has been said that the Afghan border forces, using heavy weapons, fired unprovoked and indiscriminately at the civilian area in the city of Chaman in Balochistan, resulting in 6 people were martyred and 17 were injured.

Attack on Pakistani Embassy
On December 2, Obaidur Rehman Nizamani, the head of Pakistan’s mission in Kabul, survived an assassination attempt.
In a statement, the foreign ministry said there was an attack on the embassy compound in Kabul in which the head of mission was targeted, but “by the grace of Allah Almighty, the head of mission is safe”.
However, a Pakistani security guard guarding soldier Asrar Muhammad Nizamani was seriously injured in the attack, the Foreign Office said.
It said that the government of Pakistan strongly condemns the assassination and attack on the embassy and demands an immediate investigation into the incident by the Afghan government.
Attack on border security personnel
Last month, a Frontier Corps soldier claimed martyrdom and two others were injured in an attack across the border from neighboring Afghanistan to Chaman district.
