LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi said that the Punjab government has decided to assign ownership rights to all slum residents of the province.
The Chief Minister presided over the meeting in the Chief Minister’s Office and gave the approval. In the meeting presided over by him, recommendations regarding giving ownership rights to slum dwellers were considered.
Elahi said that the decision to give ownership rights to slum dwellers has been approved. The Chief Minister also sought final recommendations from the Board of Revenue regarding the granting of ownership rights.
He directed the slum dwellers to take immediate steps for allotment of ownership rights under the legal framework and said that all issues should be resolved as soon as possible. He revealed that the slum dwellers with up to 10 marla land would be given ownership rights and a summary of the same would be presented in the cabinet meeting.
The Chief Minister directed that all the slums in Punjab should be submitted to the Chief Minister’s Office as soon as possible.
To ensure the provision of their legitimate rights to the slum dwellers, he directed the authorities concerned to formulate a plan for providing basic amenities. SMBR and DG Slums Punjab gave a briefing to the Chief Minister.
