A 7-year-old Brazilian boy died after suffering seven heart attacks. This happened when he was stung by South America’s most venomous scorpion while wearing his shoes.
On October 23, Luiz Miguel Furtado Barbosa was getting ready to go camping with his family when he felt a sting on his foot and screamed.
“As soon as she put (the shoe) on, she screamed in pain. Because we didn’t find what stung her, we watched,” Luiz’s mother, Angelita Privenca Furtado, told local news outlets. The leg started getting red, and he said the pain was getting worse,” she said.
“That’s when I imagined it was a scorpion and I needed to find it to find out which one it was.”
The family searched for the deadly Brazilian yellow scorpion (Tityus serrulatus).
Angelita and Eraldo Barbosa took their son to the University of São Paulo Faculty of Medicine Clinics Hospital, where his condition improved.
Angelita said that when her condition improved, she stopped taking the medicine. Louise spoke to her mother. He faints again when Angelita kisses him, disturbing him.
Angelita is devastated when she learns that her son has died. He said Louise had been nervous all day before the accident. “We were getting ready to go camping because he loved playing in the water,” she said.
She added, “He was, as always, very anxious. It seemed that he wanted to live everything he had to live in one day. Today, I realized that it was as if he really lived. I was in a hurry.
The city has seen 54 scorpion incidents since January 2022.
