A writer has revealed that Queen Elizabeth II never let anyone hold her umbrella for her.
Broadcaster Giles Brandreth writes in The Oldie magazine, explaining how the former king felt uneasy if someone else did it for him.
He said: “When she was gone I reprimanded William Waldegrave (president of the Oxford Union, now Baron Waldegrave) for not carrying the King’s umbrella for her as he carried her across the yard in the rain.
“He told me that the Queen always insisted on holding her umbrella. If someone else held it, the rain would come down her neck.”
It comes months after the Queen’s death. Her Majesty breathed her last at Balmoral Castle during the summer of this year.
