As the 2010 Twenty20 World Cup champions prepare to take on India in the semi-finals of the latest edition on Thursday, all-rounder Moeen Ali said there is more silver lining to England being considered a truly great limited-overs side. Must win.
England, who also won the 50-over version three years ago, failed to hit the top gear in Australia and reached the last four with an impressive win over Sri Lanka.
“There’s a lot of talk about us being a great white-ball side and the England team has been really good but we’ve only won one tournament,” Moeen told the British media.
“It’s important that we start winning more as a team and as a country.
“Then we can call ourselves upside down.”
While England haven’t been firing on all cylinders at the World Cup, Moyne has backed them to peak at the right time.
“We wanted to go to the semi-finals. In the past we have played well and won,” he said.
“This time I don’t think we’ve played well but we’ve had success and the best is yet to come with this team. I don’t think we’re anywhere near where we want to be but now is a great opportunity to correct that.
“You always talk about peaking at the right time and if you scratch that, it means you can get better. If we play our best cricket in the next two matches, I’m sure we can win the World Cup. will
