Following the assassination attempt on PTI Chairman Imran Khan, in which he was shot in the right leg, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the incident in the strongest possible terms.
On his Twitter account, the Prime Minister said: “I strongly condemn the incident of firing on PTI Chairman Imran Khan. I have directed the Home Minister to give an immediate report on the incident. I PTI Praying for the recovery of the chairman. And other injured people.”
He further said that the federal government will provide all necessary support to the Punjab government regarding security and investigation.
“Violence should have no place in our country’s politics,” the prime minister wrote.
At around 4:25 pm on Thursday, scenes of chaos erupted after shots were fired at Khan near the PTI reception camp at Gujranwala’s Allahwala Chowk.
He was injured by a bullet on his leg and according to the police, the accused who opened fire on Khan’s container has been arrested.
Several people, including PTI leader Faisal Javed, were also injured, while Gujranwala DHQ Hospital sources say that one person has lost his life. He added that the condition of the injured is stable and they are being treated.
President Arif Alvi condemned the assassination attack on Imran Khan.
Pakistan’s President Arif Alvi also condemned the “murderous attack” on Khan, saying the incident was not only alarming but also cowardly.
“Strongly condemn the assassination attack on former Pakistan Prime Minister Bahadur @ImranKhanPTI. I have sought an immediate report from the authorities. I pray for his speedy recovery and speedy recovery of all the injured. Incident,” the president tweeted.
He confirmed that a bullet hit him in the leg but added that he was safe.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also condemned the incident on his Twitter handle.
“Praying for his speedy recovery,” he wrote on Twitter.
‘Rana Sana threatened to kill Khan’ Shireen Mazari
Reacting to the incident, Senior Vice President of PTI Shereen Mazari blamed Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and said that he is the one who threatened PTI Chairman.
“Rana Sana threatened to kill IK and today we saw him attempt it. He should be arrested for attempted murder as his public statement testifies to that.”
“Nation will also hold the establishment responsible for the assassination of Imran Khan,” Mazari tweeted.
