Primary school teachers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have decided to stop their five-day walkout.
Teachers reported that their requests for higher salaries and reinstatement of allowances had been met by the administration.
They said that elementary school lessons will resume “today.”
Briefing the media, KP APTA president Azizullah Khan said that after lengthy negotiations with the Secretary for Education Motasim Billa and other top department officials, the government agreed to the requests made by the APTA. There is already a formal agreement in place about this matter.
On the fifth day of the protest, a significant group of teachers stopped the Khyber Road for many hours on Monday morning.
Primary schools in the provincial capital and all boys’ schools across the province were shuttered for the duration of the protest.
Teachers went on strike to ask for higher salaries, the restoration of previously cut benefits, and the possibility of higher positions within the education system.
On Monday, they held a sit-in at Jinnah Park in Peshawar before marching to the KP legislature. They protested the province’s refusal to meet their requests by waving signs and chanting slogans.
