A special court in Islamabad on Thursday remanded PTI leader Azam Swati on two-day physical remand to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in a case related to a controversial tweet.
The FIA official took the stand that PTI Senator Swati deliberately tried to spread hatred against the state institution among the youth and public through her statement. Azam Swati was arrested after an FIR was registered against him.
FIA’s cyber crime wing produced Azam Swati in the court of a senior civil judge and requested the court to remand the accused for seven days.
However, the defense counsel opposed the request for physical remand and said that a politically fabricated case has been made against his lawyer. He argued that the PTI leader was also subjected to torture during detention.
However, the court granted two-day physical remand of the accused to the FIA. The court also ordered the FIA to conduct a medical examination of the accused.
Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Senator Azam Swati were arrested in Islamabad for allegedly posting a controversial tweet.
According to the details, Senator Azam Khan Swati, the central leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, was arrested last night.
Sources say that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested Swati from her residence in Islamabad around 3 am on Thursday.
PTI Secretary General Asad Umar has condemned the arrest of Senator Azam Swati and demanded his early release.
Senator Azam Swati while talking to the media outside the court said that he was arrested by the FIA for tweeting. He clarified and said that I have not done anything against the law, human rights and the constitution.
It may be noted that Azam Swati is the third senior leader of PTI to be arrested by FIA after Saifullah Khan Niazi and Hamid Zaman.
