KARACHI: After announcing that it will immediately cease operations in Karachi, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Multan, and Peshawar, Uber has informed its riders and driver partners that they may instead use the Careem app.
According to the company’s latest statement, “Uber remains committed to Pakistan,” and “we will continue to service these five cities via our subsidiary brand Careem and continue to run the Uber app in Lahore.”
That “this is a tough time for the teams that have worked very hard to establish our business over the past five years” was acknowledged by the corporation.
In addition, the Careem app is now available for riders and driving partners in those five locations. The Uber app will remain accessible in Lahore, the business stated, and it plans to provide additional products to help people make ends meet during this period of economic uncertainty.
Users using the Uber app in Karachi, Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Islamabad will be informed about how to switch to the Careem app, the company said in a statement.
“It was always our conviction that the two organizations could join together to complement one other’s capabilities and better serve the area through personalized experiences. That’s why we purchased Careem.”
It went on to say that its subsidiary, Careem, may get in touch with riders to improve their experience in the five locations.
It has announced that drivers and customers in those five locations can make the move to the app developed by Careem, a Dubai-based business it bought for $3.1 billion in 2019 to dominate the ride-hailing markets in the Middle East and Pakistan.
Uber asked customers who were concerned about their privacy to fill up a form by October 14, 2022 “if you do not want your details to be shared with Careem.”
