Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced a price drop for one-way student ticket prices to China after receiving widespread criticism.
Details reveal that the national carrier has announced a 10% discount on one-way flights to China. Discounts of up to 22% are available at the PIA ticket offices.
The PIA has also allowed students to bring along additional bags. Their previous weight limit was 40 kg. However, they may take 80 kilos of baggage on board with them today.
The adjustments are immediate. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) provides two weekly direct flights to China so that Pakistani students can return to their studies there. Both Chengdu and Xi’an are served by the flights.
A group that calls itself the Pak-China Student Council raised awareness of the problem earlier this week by stating that PIA is charging students heading to China Rs. 550,000. However, the national carrier charges Chinese students Rs. 130,000.
The incident gained widespread attention on social media, with the hashtag “#PIALootingPakStudents” trending highly on Twitter and producing tens of thousands of Tweets in only a few hours.
