According to the Economic Survey 2021-22, Pakistan’s Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has granted licenses to many new companies for Direct-to-Home (DTH), satellite TV channels, FM radios, and teleport services, resulting in an estimated $2–3 billion in investment.
The Authority has authorized three licenses for the introduction of DTH in Pakistan. M/s Shahzad Sky (Pvt.) Ltd. will begin providing direct-to-home (DTH) services. In terms of technology and income, the Pakistani media might benefit greatly from this endeavor.
New licensing regimes, such as Television Audience Measurement (TAM), OTT (Over the Top), Teleporting, etc., are being considered by Pakistan’s Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA). As a result of these projects, Pakistan’s workforce will have greater chances of employment.
The media industry in Pakistan has grown rapidly over the past decade, and now this sector is a major contributor to the construction of broadcasting facilities in Pakistan’s major cities and is creating a large number of job opportunities for the youth and those who aspire to work in the electronic media. Pakistan’s electronic media business has had an estimated total investment of $4–5 billion throughout this time period.
More than 300,000 individuals are employed in journalism, management, and technology in Pakistan’s media business. However, as the media business expands, many new jobs should become available in the next three to five years.
Pakistan Television Corporation
In order to keep Pakistanis informed about national and international events, Pakistan Television Corporation Limited (PTV) is the sole public broadcaster in the country that broadcasts programs in major cities as well as rural and economically poor areas. PTV currently operates seven channels: PTV World, Only the PTV English news channel in Pakistan broadcasts domestic and international news about Pakistan.
On the terrestrial network, Pakistan Television reaches the whole country’s population. According to the latest data, there are 23,214,967 registered TV set owners in 2021.
The Pakistani government has set aside Rs 699.069 million for the PTVC’s six PSDP projects in the fiscal year of FY2022. By June 30, 2022, four separate projects will have been finished.
One of PTV’s main goals is to enhance the signal quality of Pakistan’s terrestrial networks in less developed areas, and the DTMB-TV A project is working toward that goal thanks to Chinese funding. It’s now underway to upgrade transformers and make new power connections at RBS-Murree, Cherat, and Kala Shah Kaku.
