Due to the excessive heat in Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering playing the upcoming one-day international series against the West Indies in the evening. This is a change from the usual start time of the day/night match of 2 p.m.
In Karachi, a fast bowler died of heatstroke during a local cricket tournament because of the country’s severe heatwave, which has seen record high temperatures in recent days.
Temperatures in Rawalpindi and Multan are likely to remain above 40°C in the first week of June, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
The cricket board will also take many preventive measures throughout the match, which is worth noting. Umpires may provide more drink breaks if weather circumstances warrant them, even though the ICC only allows for two each sessions per player and umpire.
This isn’t the first time a series has been shifted to the evening. Matches between Pakistan and Australia in 2012 began at 6 p.m. local time and finished at 1:45 a.m.
Pakistan will host the West Indies in Rawalpindi for a three-match One-Day International series beginning on June 8 and concluding on June 12th. Multan may be the next location for the series if the political situation in the twin cities worsens.
