The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is currently embroiled in a significant controversy as several staff members face arrest over the possession of viral content featuring students. The issue has gained widespread attention on social media platforms such as Twitter, Reddit, and Instagram.
The police have been intensifying their efforts in this case, leading to the arrest of three staff members so far. The scandal came to light when an investigation uncovered more than 400 videos and images. The university’s transport in charge was among the recent arrests, prompting the chief minister of Punjab state to take notice of the situation.

The investigation into the university staff began with the arrest of the security advisor, Ijaz, who was found in possession of drugs. Following his arrest, the finance director, Abu Bakar, was apprehended during a raid. To date, along with Ijaz and Abu Bakar, the transport in-charge, Muhammad Altaf, has also been detained.
A complaint filed at the Baghdad Al Jadid Police Station revealed that Altaf had eight grams of crystal methamphetamine in his pocket and confessed to consuming the drug. The complaint underscores the severity of the issue, citing violations under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act.
The connection between drugs and viral content emerged before Altaf’s arrest. The university’s chief security officer, Syed Ijaz, was not only found with drugs but was also allegedly linked to the possession of content featuring female officials and students of the university.

The finance director Abu Bakar is similarly under suspicion. A judicial remand for Ijaz Shah has been approved until July 24. Reports suggest that a drug dealer, who is currently a student at the university, maintained contact with some of Ijaz’s associates.
A forensic examination of the recovered content has been conducted, and the report was promptly sent to the interim chief minister of Punjab. As the university grapples with this scandal, the larger community awaits further updates, emphasizing the need for secure educational environments and strict oversight.
